AFL AND BOXING SUPERSTARS LIGHT UP ADELAIDE AT THE GATHERING ON STAN
THE GATHERING PAY-PER-VIEW IS STILL AVAILABLE TO ORDER EXCLUSIVELY ON STAN
April 3, 2024 - The stars were out tonight in Adelaide, enjoying a stellar night of boxing featuring AFL legends and standout professional fighters alike, at The Gathering Pay-Per-View, live & exclusive on Stan.
The Gathering Pay-Per-View is still available to order, exclusively on Stan.
The nail-biting main event delivered the drama, but it was Aussie warrior Jackson England who needed every bit of his 'Action' nickname to overcome tough American Jamel Herring, en-route to becoming the new WBO Global Super Featherweight champion.
The result was razor thin, as Jackson edged out Herring via split decision, with two judges scoring the contest 96-94 in favour of the Aussie, and one going 97-93 in favour of Herring.
It was the AFL stars who stole the show however, as Anthony Rocca, Dane Swan, Nathan Brown and Mitch Robinson all came up trumps in their bouts.
Swan, a bonafide AFL superstar, proved too much for his former Collingwood teammate Dale Thomas, outpointing him to a clear unanimous victory.
And all eyes were on Nathan Brown and Kane Cornes, AFL Footy Show colleagues on Channel 9 turned sworn enemies in the ring. It was Brown who surprised many by how slick he looked in the ring, getting the best of Cornes in most exchanges and earning the points decision.
AFL royalty were in the house for the event, as Wayne Carey, Brendan Fevola, Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico, and current Port Adelaide stars Charlie Dixon and Aliir Aliir were on hand to cheer on their fellow players.
Former UFC superstar Tyson Pedro was also spotted, weighing up the cream of the crop of Australian boxing following his recent decision to leave the octagon for the squared circle. Joining the broadcast to offer his thoughts on the fights, Pedro, alongside boxing legend Danny Green, hinted at his fighting future, revealing a big announcement was to come next week.
Earlier in the night, Alex Leapai Jr, the son of Aussie heavyweight great Alex 'Lionheart' Leapai, tasted success in his first bout as a professional after tearing up his NRL contract, defeating Kiwi Joe Ageli via decision, following a tough back and forth battle.
And Aussie stalwart Jack Brubaker turned away Korean star In Duck Seo in a hard hitting affair, with both fighters trading shots throughout an absolute slugfest until Brubaker ultimately won on points.
