PARIS POOL DELIVERS MORE AUSSIE GOLD

  • Australia picked up seven more medals at La Defense Arena including two Gold.
  • Curtis McGrath was dominant in his heats on the opening day of Para Canoe competition.

AUSSIES IN ACTION - DAY 9

Para Swimming

  • Ben Hance put the field on notice by breaking his own World Record in the heats of the Men's S14 100m Backstroke and then got the job done in the final, defending the Gold medal he won in Tokyo.
  • Seventeen-year-old Callum Simpson collected his second Gold medal of the Games, winning the Men's S8 100m Freestyle by just 0.02s. He was also a heat swimmer in the Mixed Medley Relay team which won Gold.
  • Tim Hodge (Silver) and Lewis Bishop (Bronze) have both made the podium in the Men's S9 100m Butterfly, but could not overcome Italy's Simone Barlaam who claimed his second Gold of the Games.
  • Tom Gallagher has added a Men's S10 100m Backstroke Bronze medal to the Gold and Bronze he had already picked up in the Freestyle sprint events.
  • Relay Gold medallist Emily Beecroft has picked up another medal, taking Bronze in the Women's S9 100m Butterfly.
  • Rachael Watson collected her second Bronze medal in Paris, backing up her 100m result with an Oceania Record in the Women's S4 50m Freestyle.

Para Athletics

  • Annabelle Colman set a new Area Record in the Women's T20 1500m Final, finishing just two seconds off the podium in fourth place.
  • 400m Gold medallist James Turner is through to the Men's T36 100m Final after finishing third in his heat.
  • Sydney schoolgirl Telaya Blacksmith set a new Area Record in the Women's T20 Long Jump Final on her way to a top 10 finish.
  • Rhiannon Clarke posted a new Area Record in the heats of the Women's T38 400m and will be chasing a medal in the final.
  • Rheed McCracken finished fourth in his heat of the Men's T34 800m but has progressed to the final as one of the two-fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

Para Canoe

  • Curtis McGrath has had an impressive opening day of competition on the Vaires-sur-Marne, winning his KL2 Kayak heat to move straight into the final, before backing it up with a Paralympic Games Best Time in the VL3 Va'a, to once again receive direct passage to the final race.
  • Dylan Littlehayles is into the final of the Men's KL3 Kayak Single after winning his heat.
  • Susan Seipel finished third in both the VL2 Va'a and KL2 Kayak to move into the semi-finals of those events.

Wheelchair Basketball

  • The Rollers finished fifth overall in Paris following an 82-75 victory overnight against Netherlands.

INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS - DAY 9

Para Swimming

  • China's Guo Jincheng collected another Gold medal in the Men's S5 50m Butterfly, the armless swimmer collecting another World Record. He led China to a sweep of the podium, which they also achieved in the Women's S5 50m Butterfly.

Para Cycling

  • Sarah Storey staged a stunning comeback to win the Women's C4-5 Road Race, overcoming Heidi Gaugain (FRA) in a sprint finish. It is the Brit's 13th Cycling Gold medal in addition to the five she won in swimming in 1992 and 1996.

Para Athletes

  • Podium sweeps have been rare at the Paralympics however Netherlands achieved just that in the Women's T64 100m. Fleur Jong backed up her Long Jump victory with another Gold ahead of Kimberly Alkemade and Marlene van Gansewinkel.

Sitting Volleyball

  • Iran defeated Bosnia & Herzegovina 3:1 in the Men's Sitting Volleyball Final to claim their third consecutive Paralympic Gold medal. The world's second-tallest man Morteza Mehrzadselakjani was dominant with a match-leading 25 points.
