STAN CROWNED AS THE LARGEST COMMISSIONER OF AUSTRALIAN DRAMA TITLES IN FY24
Embracing Aussie storytelling and showcasing our talented cast and creatives, Stan continues its significant investment in premium original productions.
December 18, 2024 – Released yesterday, Screen Australia’s 34th Annual Drama Report confirms Stan as the largest commissioner of Australian drama titles in FY241.
Stan commissioned a total of 15 Australian drama titles in FY24, including television series Black Snow S2, Bump S4 and S5, Critical Incident, Exposure, Good Cop/Bad Cop, Invisible Boys, Scrublands S2, Sunny Nights, Thou Shalt Not Steal and Ten Pound Poms S2. And during this period, Stan commissioned four films including The Surfer, Windcatcher, Nugget is Dead and a fourth feature soon to be announced.
In the category of Australian general subscription TV and SVOD drama, Stan Originals dominated with almost 50% of the total titles commissioned in FY24, exceeding the total output from the global streamers combined.
Stan Chief Executive Officer Martin Kugeler said: “Stan is a proud supporter of the local film industry and with our investment we are championing premium Australian content, as highlighted in Screen Australia's Drama report. We continue to collaborate with Australian and global creatives, as well as experienced and emerging filmmakers, to bring authentic Australian stories to life, and we thank Screen Australia, the state screen agencies and all our production and distribution partners.
As we celebrate being the largest commissioner of Australian drama titles in FY24, we acknowledge our global collaborators, who are integral in bringing our content to international audiences. We look forward to the exceptional line-up Stan will premiere in 2025 and beyond.”
Continuing to support Australia’s film and television industry, Australian-owned single territory streamer Stan champions those in front of the camera and the incredible creatives behind the scenes. Stan’s slate of scripted Australian drama was complemented by a suite of unscripted Stan Originals in FY24, including the Walkley Award-winning documentary Revealed: How to Poison a Planet, three-part sports documentary The Wallabies - Inside Rugby World Cup 2023, AACTA-nominated documentary Revealed: Otto by Otto, season 2 of reality dating series Love Triangle, Drag Race Down Under with Michelle Visage, and Trailblazers, showcasing the incredible rise of women’s football in Australia.
As we near 2025, Stan continues to build its scripted slate with a suite of productions premiering over Summer. The fifth season of the Stan Original Series Bump premieres Boxing Day, and the Stan Original Series Black Snow returns New Year’s Day, starring Travis Fimmel. Heartfelt and poignant documentary The Tattooist’s Son: Journey to Auschwitz will premiere in January.
